Long-Distance Love
Expansive night sky, clear, crisp and bright.
A million stars twinkle, tease with lonely light.
Evening sounds surround, distant, empty and blue.
One solitary soul searches, yearning for you.
An agony of distance, tears tender heartstrings.
Surgical knife no surer slice brings.
Two hearts apart will most surely reveal,
Requited relief when our stay is repealed.
Prisoners of time, distance, life and love,
Long for reunion like hand for lost glove.
Past, present and future, in every inch of my being,
My love for you courses, beyond touch, taste or seeing.
For years you prayed for me, but didn’t know my name,
I in return did for you just the same.
God ordained our two hearts’ most unlikely meeting.
The spark started swiftly and grew at first greeting.
Though now apart in body, our hearts remain true,
You long for me and I long for you.
Oh Divine Director, bring us swiftly back together.
One love, one life, nevermore to sever!
